The Kavli Institute for Cosmology at the University of Cambridge will be hosting an outreach event aimed at sixth form students (those studying for their A-levels) to come and meet experts within the field of cosmology.

As well as touching on the main aspects of the Physics A level syllabus from Unit 1 through to, and in particular, the optional unit 5A astrophysics of which cosmology is a subsection, the topics covered will include discussion of the first Planck result released in 2013. The second Planck data release, later this year, may help  confirm the very recent announcement of the the first sighting of primordial gravitational waves, ripples in space-time linked to the universe's rapid growth spurt, reported by the team that ran the BICEP2 experiment at the South Pole.
