The Kavli Institute for Cosmology, Cambridge (KICC) would like to invite cosmologists to the 2018 MontePython + Class workshop, led by Julien Lesgourgues, Thejs Brinckman and Deanna Hooper.

In this project-driven workshop, researchers can learn by example how to extend the base code for situations of research interest, such as investigating new dark matter components, alternative models of inflation or extensions to the LCDM universe.

The workshop lasts three days, beginning and ending at lunchtime on Tuesday 11th and Thursday 13th September, and is appropriate for PhD or post-doc level researchers.

Attendance and lunch are free, but we are limited to up to 25 attendees, so please register your interest ASAP. Attendees should arrange their own accommodation. Please see here for a list of recommended places to stay.

Further information

  • Class is an extendable Boltzmann solver written in C/C++ for computing cosmic microwave background power spectra.
  • MontePython is Monte Carlo code for cosmological parameter extraction written in python.

Together these programs form a full pipeline for testing theoretical models with observational data. Using and modifying Class, a researcher can generate predictions of the perturbations we would see on the night sky. MontePython then forms the interface between these predictions, up-to-date cosmological datasets (and likelihoods), and Bayesian samplers (such as Metropolis-Hastings, emcee, MultiNest or PolyChord).
