14–16 December 2026
Institute of Astronomy, University of Cambridge
The Kavli Institute for Cosmology, Cambridge (KICC) is pleased to support the WST UK Community Workshop, bringing together researchers from the UK, the wider WST community, and the international astronomical community.
The Wide-field Spectroscopic Telescope (WST) is a proposed next-generation facility for massively multiplexed optical spectroscopy. With its wide field of view, large collecting area, high multiplex capability and integral-field spectroscopy, WST has the potential to enable transformative research across a broad range of astronomical fields.
About the workshop
The workshop will provide an opportunity for the community to explore the scientific potential of WST and help shape future engagement with the project. Discussions will cover key science priorities, survey strategies, synergies with current and future facilities, technical developments, and opportunities for UK and international participation.
Topics will include:
-
Science priorities for WST
-
Survey strategy and design
-
Synergies with current and future facilities
-
Instrument and technical development
-
Theory, simulations and data infrastructure
-
UK and international community engagement
-
Pathways to participation
-
Training and early-career involvement
The workshop will also explore synergies between WST and facilities including WEAVE, MOONS, DESI, 4MOST, Gaia, PLATO, Euclid, Rubin/LSST, Roman, JWST, ALMA, SKA and CMB experiments.
Call for abstracts
Researchers interested in contributing to the workshop are invited to submit an abstract.
Abstract submission deadline: 30 September 2026
