We are delighted that an agent-driven team including KICC researchers got a first-place award at the Phase 1 of the NeurIPS 2025 FairUniverse competition.
The team consisting of mainly PhD and MSc students, including Tom Borrett, Célia Lecat, Andy Nilipour, Sébastien Pierre, Licong Xu, advised by Boris Bolliet and Erwan Allys, managed to solve a cutting-edge astrophysics research problem in weak gravitational lensing outperforming many domain-experts.
Licong Xu presented the work of the team brilliantly in San Diego. The key to their success was to use their agentic AI system Cmbagent, steered in the right direction with human-based decisions. The team are very grateful to the fair-universe collaboration for organizing the competition and to their co-competitors for making the competition very exciting, including François Lanusse's team and SHUBHOJIT NASKAR, the other winners in the challenge.
