Synopsis: The spectral energy distribution (SED) of galaxies contains a wealth of information about the stellar populations, supermassive black holes, and the interstellar medium. Decoding the SEDs in order to constrain the underlying physical properties and processes from spectrophotometric data is challenging given the large parameter space and degeneracies. This Kavli Science Focus Meeting on the Future of SED Modelling will address these challenges by bringing together the vast experience in the Cambridge astronomical community. We will discuss a wide range of topics, including:
- Stellar populations: from binarity to alpha-enhanced abundances
- Going from numerical simulation to observation: radiative transfer modelling
- Complexify models to include nebular emission, AGN, and other sources
- Multi-wavelength SED inference: combining data from different instruments
- Hierarchical modelling in the context of SED inference
- Population modelling through simulation-based calibrations
- Scalable inference for individual galaxies in large surveys
