The Astrophysics Group of the Department of Physics and the Kavli Institute for Cosmology, University of Cambridge, invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work in support of activities related to the group's observational programme on the formation and evolution of galaxies and black holes. Within this framework, the team led by Professor Roberto Maiolino exploits a variety of multi-band data on nearby and distant galaxies, obtained from various observing facilities and surveys (including ALMA, ESO-VLT, SDSS4-MANGA), and is heavily involved in the preparation of the observing programmes planned for some of the major forthcoming observational facilities, such as JWST-NIRSpec and VLT@MOONS.

The successful applicant is expected to work in collaboration with the team led by Professor Roberto Maiolino on the analysis and interpretation of observational data (especially from some of the facilities discussed above) to investigate the physical processes driving galaxy evolution, and is also expected to contribute to the preparation of the relevant observing programmes.

Further information on the research activities of the Kavli Institute and of the team can be found at: https://www.kicc.cam.ac.uk and http://www.mrao.cam.ac.uk/~rm665

Applicants should have a PhD in Astronomy or Astrophysics or a closely related discipline (or should have a PhD in these areas by the time they start the job). They should have a proven track record in research in astrophysics. The candidate must be experienced with astronomical data analysis and software packages for data analysis, and specifically experienced with the analysis of spectroscopic data. Experience with the spectroscopic investigation of galaxies and/or their coevolution with supermassive black holes is also required.

Starting date: Flexible between September and December 2021.

Click the 'Apply' button below to register an account with our recruitment system (if you have not already) and apply online.

The applicant should upload a CV and a Statement of Research Interests (two pages maximum), by the closing date of 10 March 2021.
