Kavli Institute for Cosmology, Cambridge

We are very pleased to announce that in April this year Dr Sandro Tacchella will join our Institute as a new Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics. Sandro is a well-known expert in galaxy evolution and has made key contributions to understanding the mechanisms and physical processes driving the formation, evolution and transformation of galaxies across cosmic epochs. He exploits cutting-edge multi-wavelength observational data obtained with some of the most advanced telescopes on ground and in space. He also uses and develops analytical and cosmological numerical models to shed light on the physical properties of early galaxies.

Sandro is also heavily involved in the new James Webb Space Telescope, playing a key role both in the data processing of the NIRCam instrument and in projects aimed at detecting galaxies formed in the early Universe and at characterising their primeval properties.

Thanks to his scientific breath and expertise, Sandro will play a pivotal role in further connecting the departments and institutes in Cambridge that are active in astrophysics (KICC, Cavendish Laboratory, Institute of Astronomy, DAMTP, DPMMS), and strengthen links with several other major institutes and universities across the world through his extensive research network.

We are all looking forward to Sandro arriving in April!
