Newton-Kavli Junior Fellow Oliver Friedrich has been awarded the annual PhD thesis award by the German astronomical society (this year awarded to both Dr Friedrich and Dr Tim Lichtenberg) for his outstanding contributions studying the large scale structure of the Universe. In his thesis titled "Statistical Properties of the Cosmic Density Field beyond 2-point Statistics" he developed new methodology in two areas of research: First, a new method to efficiently characterise statistical uncertainties of cosmological analyses. Secondly, a theoretical framework to study density fluctuations beyond just their amplitude.
