The Department of Physics invites applications for a University Assistant /Associate Professor position in Experimental Radio Cosmology.
The Department is looking for a talented early career scientist to promote and develop ambitious programmes aimed at investigating the early universe during the initial phases of structure formation ('Dark Ages', 'Cosmic Dawn' and 'Epoch of Re-ionization') via observations of the 21-cm transition from atomic hydrogen. The successful candidate will also be expected to lead the development of instrumentation for radio astrophysics, with a special focus on the SKA telescope.
The Assistant/Associate Professorship will be based in the Department of Physics in the Astrophysics Group, located in the Battcock Centre for Experimental Astrophysics and in the Kavli Institute for Cosmology.
Experimental 21-cm radio cosmology and radio instrumentation, are areas of very active research in Cambridge, with scientists leading several ongoing projects and the development of new facilities that are expected to be ground-breaking in this research field (see e.g. https://www.astro.phy.cam.ac.uk).
The successful candidate will have a world-class research record in the area of 21-cm experimental radio cosmology and radio instrumentation development. They are expected to play a leading role and expand the research activities in this area. Applicants should have a PhD in physics (or a related discipline), a strong record of relevant research, and must show evidence of enthusiasm and ability to teach a wide range of physics courses successfully at both undergraduates and master's level. This work will include the delivery of existing courses, and the development of new teaching materials, lecture courses, examinations and laboratory classes.
