Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance, with the possibility of an additional 2 year extension subject to funding.

The Kavli Institute for Cosmology, University of Cambridge (Located at the West Cambridge Site), is starting a new programme of research fellowships, the 'Gavin Boyle Fellowship in Cosmology and Exoplanetary Science'. The Fellowship programme has been made possible by the joint donation from Mr Gavin Boyle and the Kavli Foundation. The first of these research fellowships will be in the area of Exoplanets starting in October 2019.

Applicants must have a PhD in Astronomy or a related field, or be near to completion by the start date of the fellowship. Applicants should have expertise in research areas relevant to the discovery, characterisation or theoretical study of exoplanets or exoplanetary atmospheres, or their formation processes.

The successful applicant will be expected to develop research objectives and conduct collaborative scientific research in Exoplanetary Science (specifically in the areas mentioned above), write up research work for publication and presentations, and may be involved in one or more of the various research projects associated with Exoplanetary research at Cambridge. The successful applicant may be requested to assist with the supervision of graduate students and outreach activities. Applicants must have excellent communication and computing skills.

Salary will be on the Postdoctoral scale at Grade 5 for those close to completion of PhD (£26,243 to £30,395) or Grade 7 for those with proof of PhD (£30,395 to £39,609) plus superannuation benefit. A research allowance of £5,000 pa will be provided. Further benefits of University employment are outlined at http://www.induction.admin.cam.ac.uk/

It is expected that the successful applicant will also be offered an affiliation with Selwyn College, which may include additional College benefits (e.g. subsidised accommodation and meals). However, this affiliation is subject to assessment by the College on the candidate's suitability and is conditional on agreeing some additional duties and opportunities in terms of teaching and outreach.
