The Kavli Institute for Cosmology, Cambridge, is offering one Kavli Institute Senior Fellowship in Gravitational Waves. The Senior Fellow will actively interface and foster collaboration between the three departments associated with the Kavli Institute and which conduct research activities related to gravitational wave (GW) theory and astronomy - the Institute of Astronomy, Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics and the Department of Physics.
Specific research areas of interest include multi-messenger astrophysics with GW sources, tests of general relativity through GW observations, the use of LIGO observations to study the formation history of black holes, GW data analysis techniques and template construction, studies of the equation of state through electromagnetic and GW observations of neutron stars and GW source modeling including dark-matter candidates and electromagnetic counterparts.
Applicants must be experienced researchers and have a PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Astronomy or a related field and a proven track record of independent research in one, or more, of the above-mentioned or related fields. The Fellowship is targeted at researchers who have the potential to become leaders in their fields. The successful applicant will be expected to build an independent research program but will have many opportunities for collaborative work. They will be expected to prepare or contribute to proposals to secure research resources (for example access to high-performance computing). The Senior Fellow will disseminate their research findings through publications and presentations and contribute to the Institute's public-engagement activities. They will have opportunities to assist with the supervision of graduate students. Applicants must have excellent communication and computing skills.
Salary will be on the Senior Research Associate scale (grade 9, from £45,585 to £57,696). A research allowance of £10,000 per annum will be provided. A generous relocation package will also be provided. Further benefits of University employment are outlined at http://www.induction.admin.cam.ac.uk/.
